THE WHEELER'S MAPLE HISTORY

Vernon Wheeler started working in the sugar bush at age 6 near Snow Road. In 1978 Vernon and Judy tapped the first trees at the present site. Since the beginning their son Mark, and daughters Angela, Kristen, and Tracy have been an active part of the success and growth of the Maple operation. Wheelers Sugar Bush is now one of the largest producers in Eastern Ontario with over 10,000 taps.  Over 180 kilometers of pipeline is used to transport maple sap to the Sugar Camp where it is boiled into pure maple syrup.  The latest in equipment and technology is used to produce maple products that meet the high quality standards that Vernon expects of every litre of maple syrup that carries the Wheelers label.
The new building containing the Pancake House and Sugar Camp was finished in 1996. Picturesquely nestled in the center of the 730 acre forest the log building is a mixture of old and  new. The cedar logs that make the walls were restored and reworked from 6 different old barns. The lumber that you see was sawed and dressed at local mills from trees we cut off this property. One full year of work went into the construction of the building using over 50 thousand board feet of lumber, 20 kilometers of electrical wire, and a quarter of a million nails!
